Not everyone in a wheelchair can't get up, or walk. I & many others are in one because we can not stand or walk long enough to go very far. Not humorous.
Two days before my 15th birthday, I got an acute autoimmune condition called transverse myelitis. Half an hour after the onset of it, I was paralyzed from the chest down, fortunately, TM is treatable if it's diagnosed and caught early enough, so over the course of the next three months, I slowly regained my ability to walk. There was a period where I was in a wheelchair because I was unable to walk, but I could stand up just fine. If I tried to walk, I'd trip and fall over, but I could stand up just like anyone else. Being in a wheelchair doesn't mean you can't walk at all, it just means you have severe mobility issues. Thus the moral of the story is: you're an insensitive motherfucker if you laughed at this.
I don't think it makes anyone insensitive at all to laugh at this. No one is blatantly laughing at the women, you can't even see her face. We all know that not all people in wheelchairs can't walk, it's simply a humorous picture, because that's what people usually think when they see someone in a wheelchair. I guess everyone in America are insensitive motherfuckers considering some of the television we watch. Think about the things we see on shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons. This would be totally different if the woman was turned around, and meant to be a picture used as a personal attack. Rather, it's simply just a semi-humorous picture of a woman standing up to get a bottle of alcohol, and there just happens to be a wheelchair behind her. People need to seriously get a sense of humor, and stop taking life so seriously. It's a god damn picture.
Fuck you self righteous POS's. This is a hilarious satire on the "Christmas miracle" bullshit.
It's obvious, using a disabled person cured cured (a favorite tool for Christian propagandists), but reaching for one liquor (one of the churches greatest foes). I love it and I lauged my ass off.
If you can't have the humor to laugh at yourself, take a Xanax. I am a Jew and regularly make Holocaust jokes. I think their hilarious.
If you can view even the most awful things in life with even the slightest bit of humor; it makes life much more livable.
I don't exactly agree with either side here. If people in wheelchairs want equal treatment, then they need to be able to handle the treatment that's negative too. To have a condition and want equal treatment and then not be able to take a joke? It seems a little contradicted.
Now, I don't agree with people who easy they laughed so hard at this either. Because its just not funny to label it as a Christmas miracle. That woman probably did a lot of work to get out of her chair... just sayin.
wasn't even going to comment but had to defend... the Simpsons is a very intelligent show! there are like 700 intellectual references per episode!
Americans aren't insensitive because we watch insensitive tv
tv is insensitive because people can be insensitive.
also i didn't think this was funny. some things are just not funny. not even related to content, it's just not an lol time for me. ha ha! it's a miracle! people love booze!
now the Simpsons would have written a funny joke for that. it's just not about the DOH's, people. ok?
Funny thing about humor: everything is game for a laugh or none of it is. You can't pick and choose what's OK to make fun of. Obviously, some people won't like it merely because they don't find it funny, others will see it as insensitive and cruel, and others know it's just a fucking joke and there's really no harm in it. It's great to see how people get self righteous when they see something they don't agree with. Those same people laugh at things others would find insensitive or cruel, so everyone, please shut the fuck up and laugh at everything.
The wheelchair isn't for mobility issues, it's to distract from the fact she's wearing jhorts (jean shorts, for the morons). The real miracle is that she was willing to be seen in such attire.

ReplyDeleteJust because she can stand doesn't mean she can walk any distance. Patients with MS can only walk for a short distance. Just saying...
