ReplyDeleteActually it's technically illegal, at least in NY. I took a defense driving course recently for my insurance and one of the things the instructor told us was that if you run over a pet, technically by law you're required to attempt to find the owner. Nobody enforces it but if you're reading the law by the letter then yeah, it's illegal.

ReplyDeleteIt's not illegal to hit a dog, but when you do you have to report it to the police. That's why the cops got involved. It's only with dogs that that's true, nothing else. He can get prosecuted for not reporting it because of certain animal cruelty laws.

ReplyDeleteTotally fake and only illegal depending on where you live. Pet owners need to keep their dogs on a leash or in a fenced yard for a reason - and I'm a dog owner so I know it's easier said than done. When my dog gets out, she runs!

ReplyDeleteIn the real world, the owner of the dog could be charged for damages to the car. Many places have leash laws, and the owner would be responsible for the dog.
